Mindfulness Matters

Mindless eating patterns aren’t just helpful for digestive health and hunger control- a recent study published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders reports that mindfulness may also work in preventing eating disorders.

Effects were found after six-month follow up in weight and shape concern, dietary restrictions, eating disorder symptoms, and thin-ideal internalization. Results were comparable with a dissonance-based intervention.

The author stated that the “Findings show promise for the application of mindfulness in the prevention of eating disorders; however, further work is required to increase both impact and acceptability, and to enable successful outcomes when delivered by less expert providers”.
