Is It Nuts for a School Cafeteria to go Peanut Free?

School cafeterias and western style restaurants with peanut shells on the floor- one might think these are least safe places for a child with a peanut allergy.

A new study has found that at least in schools, peanut free policies don’t necessarily mean less accidental exposures to the allergen when compared to those with strict policies.

But where did most accidental exposures to peanuts happen? In the child’s own home (over 37% to be exact, with fewer than 10% at schools or day cares.)

Now that’s nuts, isn’t it?
