Food Access Worries Linked to Poor Control of Diabetes

Across the United States approximately 14% can be considered food insecure. Food insecuring meaning that access to nutritionally-adequate foods is limited for reasons such as fresh foods are too expensive, are not for sale in the area, work schedule doesn’t allow for preparation etc therefore putting individuals at risk for nutrient deficiencies.

However, food insecurity has also been linked to poor blood glucose control and higher hemoglobin A1C values in those with diabetes.

Although this study was specifically for the Latino population in Atlanta, it wouldn’t be surprising to find similar results around the world.
