Scientists claim that wholegrains may help the metabolism work more effectively, thereby speeding up weight loss.
Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that people consuming a diet containing high amounts of wholegrains absorbed less energy from food than people who ate a similar diet but consumed refined grains.
Those consuming a diet high in wholegrains passed more stools with a higher total energy content and had a resting metabolic rate that burned more calories per day than those consuming refined grains. The difference between the two groups was only 92 calories a day, equal to 2.5 kg per year… but still, what an interesting finding!
